In Bloom: New Single Out Now

The Lonely Harps Club has released “In Bloom,” the third single from the upcoming album Long Game. Writer Julia Mascetti commented,

“”In Bloom” is a song I wrote years ago whilst living in Tokyo. It’s a haunting track, evoking themes of distance and memories. You can hear the Japanese influence in the shamisen on the recording (played by Arthur Reiji Morris), and the iconic “sakura” mentioned in the lyrics. “In Bloom” has been reimagined for my upcoming album Long Game, with drums, delay and electronics from the wonderful Riccardo Daga and Carlo Bellotti, making this version truly dreamy.

The video is filmed by Max Benoist in an incredible setting: Talliston House and Gardens in Great Dunmow, Essex. From the outside, Talliston looks like a normal council house, but inside it’s a fantasy world, with thirteen extraordinary themed rooms. Talliston has been featured on Netflix and inspired the setting for a novel: The Stranger’s Guide to Talliston. As someone who grew up in Essex, I feel a deep connection to Talliston and it was an honour to shoot there.

The concept of the video for “In Bloom” is inspired by Talliston whilst remaining true to the vision of the song. A woman is trapped in a labyrinth that is beautiful, but with sinister undertones. I think that perhaps she has entered the labyrinth as a child and has aged into an adult without knowing it. The concept of being frozen in time will be evocative to many after a year in a global pandemic.”
